One of the hidden treasures of the Rocca Santa Maria area is located in the wildest corner of the Monti della Laga, and is the Bosco Martese. <\/strong> One of the most intact green areas in Italy, the Bosco Martese is immersed in the green valley between the Rio Castellano and the Tordino river. To make an excursion in the Bosco Martese, starting from piazzale del Ceppo, you have to travel the dirt road for at least 6 km through the fir forest and passing through the Fonte del Guardia woods, at 1,340 m.
All seasons offer scenery unique, from the winter when everything is made more magical by the muffled atmosphere created by the snow, to the spring where the birds chirp again and the flowers to bloom, up to the autumn where everything is colored with heat, the leaves fall making noise underneath the feet of hikers amazed by the golden shade of the ferns and trees that embellish the landscape. In autumn, the forest is filled with a carpet of mushrooms, small mammals hibernate, but there is always some daredevil who loves to observe hikers and who knows if any of these hikers will be lucky enough to spot some inhabitants of the forest, such as wolves, wild boars and dormice. <\/p>\n
